“The Republican National Committee plans to raise money this election cycle through an aggressive campaign capitalizing on “fear” of President Barack Obama and a promise to ‘save the country from trending toward socialism…’ In neat PowerPoint pages, it lifts the curtain on the often-cynical terms of political marketing, displaying an air of disdain for the party’s donors that is usually confined to the barroom conversations of political operatives.”
A 72 page document was leaked to Politico - interestingly enough, a usually right-leaning political website - that documents the Republican strategy for the next election. On one hand, it exhibits a sort of victory-at-all-costs attitude, rather than an attitude that actually wants the issues that plague the US right now to be fixed. In general, this attitude appears to characterize the GOP recently, which is pretty much the only possible explanation as to why almost nobody on the right is negotiating with the Democrats, and often some Republicans will change their position on issues specifically to avoid siding with Democrats who have negotiated to the right. On the other, this cynical disparagement of donors should be a massive problem, although it probably won’t be as it’s pretty clear that many (not all, mind you, but many) of the members of the contemporary GOP seem to think that the American public is a bunch of idiots and can be lied to constantly, and that hasn’t done much to change anything, or even get these politicians called out on their lies.
